Learning to love yourself through dance

"Loving your neighbor as yourself" includes "Loving yourself" as a prerequisite.

Do you ever put yourself aside for others? Children, spouse, parents... even if it means infantilizing them and forgetting to live. It's not good for them or for us. Women are pretty good at it, but men are no exception.

 

An error of interpretation

There have been times when I've thought: "It's okay, I don't like myself, I'm all for others so I'm on the right track" Not selfish, I look after others. Sometimes I'm on the victim's side, sometimes I'm a savior.

I forgot myself for others until I lost myself.
It was the perfect excuse to run away from myself.

So today, I put it this way: in "loving your neighbor as yourself", " loving yourself " is a prerequisite. And I suggest using yourself as the first guinea pig for learning to love.

 

Why?

  • Can we claim to give someone time and attention if we don't even know how to give it to ourselves?
  • If I love myself, if I know what I need, what makes me tick, then I'm available for the other person. I don't sacrifice myself, I don't give what I don't have (what I'd like to have).
  • I know the value of what I give and the value of what I receive for myself.
  • I know how to give so that what I give can be received.
  • How can we avoid projecting our fears, angers, wounds and needs onto others if we haven't taken the time to seek out, get to know, tame and accept ourselves?

 

Movement Medicine: a tool for learning to love yourself

A Movement Medicine workshop is a time for self-exploration. We use the body to get to know ourselves. Using the body in movement, we activate the links between body, heart and mind to connect with our deepest nature. We set in motion what's on our minds to open up to a new perception. Consciously circulate repressed emotions to free ourselves from them and choose what we want to put in their place.
